    Traditional Edict

    Beehive Ginger. Rigid honeycomb bracts hold clear aromatic fluid. Rhizome dispels wind-dampness, unblocks collaterals, relieves severe knee arthritis; fresh bract fluid (Air Tepus) cures conjunctivitis.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Ophthalmic fluid must be freshly harvested and sterile-filtered before eye use. Contraindicated in active pregnancy (blood-breaking and uterine-contracting properties).

    Clinical Applications

    • Severe knee osteoarthritis, rheumatoid joint stiffness, colorectal carcinoma (HCT-116/HT-29 apoptosis), acute infective conjunctivitis (eye wash), and inflammatory bowel disease.

    Quality Markers

    Zerumbone >= 1.20% & (E)-Labda-8(17),12-diene-15,16-dial (GC-MS/HPLC MHM standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Zerumbone blocks IKK/NF-kB p65 nuclear translocation, downregulating pro-inflammatory TNF-a, IL-1b, and MMP-1/13 in synovial joints, while inducing Caspase-3/9 apoptosis in colon cancer. 2. Sterile bract fluid contains antimicrobial terpenes for ophthalmia.

    Preparation & Dosage

    Sliced dried rhizome in decoction: 6-15 g daily. Orang Asli Ophthalmic Eye Drop Protocol: Pure fluid collected from fresh sterile bract cups, filtered through 0.22 um membrane: 1-2 drops twice daily. Poultice: 20-50 g.
