    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Distinguish from Zingiber cassumunar (yellow interior). CONTRAINDICATED in active pregnancy (uterine-contracting dynamics). Safe and highly indicated during postpartum lactation.

    • Postpartum lochial retention and uterine subinvolution (stimulating rhythmic myometrial contraction), closed ankle sprains and soft tissue contusions (COX-2/5-LOX inhibition), and flatulent dyspepsia.

    (E)-1-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)butadiene (DMPBD) >= 1.20%, Zerumbone Epoxide & Terpinen-4-ol >= 15.0% (HPLC/GC-MS)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. DMPBD and zerumbone epoxide exert dual COX-2 and 5-LOX inhibition, halting sprain edema and pain. 2. Camphoraceous terpenes surge pelvic microvascular flow to accelerate uterine involution.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN BONGLAI HITAM CONFINEMENT ELIXIR: 15 to 25 g fresh sliced rhizome simmered with Curcuma xanthorrhiza (Temulawak) and Gula Melaka in 500 mL water for 20 min; taken warm twice daily during 44-day confinement. Sprain poultice: 50 g grated rhizome in coconut oil.
