    Downy Wrightia / Water Jasmine (Bunga Jeliti / Dao Diao Bi / Shui Mei). Pendulous pencil-like follicles hanging downward and fragrant white blossoms. Sovereign for clearing acute pharyngitis, soothing toothaches, resolving lung phlegm, and unblocking dysuria.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Avoid swallowing large amounts of raw latex. High clinical and ornamental tea safety profile. Safe in lactation; moderate internal doses during pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Acute pharyngotonsillitis with painful swallowing, periodontal toothache, acute tracheobronchitis with yellow sputum, and damp-heat urinary strangury.

    Quality Markers

    Wrightiadione (Isoflavone isorhamnetin derivative) >= 0.50%, Indole Alkaloids & Lupeol (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Wrightiadione and flavonoids downregulate pharyngeal NF-kB and COX-2, clearing throat erythema. 2. Indole alkaloids numb dental nerve conduction. 3. Promotes renal diuresis.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN JELITI PHARYNGEAL DECOCTION: 15 to 30 g dried bark chips or branchlets boiled with Platycodon (Jie Geng, 10 g) and Licorice in 500 mL water for 20 min; sipped warm for sore throat. Fresh flower tea (Shui Mei): 10 g steeped in hot water.
