    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Transient mild dry mouth is a normal therapeutic gustatory effect. High clinical, pulmonary, and pediatric safety profile. Safe in lactation; moderate doses in pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Tobacco dependence and smoking cessation (modulating oral gustatory perception and central a4b2 nAChRs via Hirsutinolides and Potassium Nitrate), acute bronchitis, smoker's cough, typhoid fevers, and cystitis.

    Quality Markers

    Hirsutinolides (Vernolide, 8a-tigloyloxyhirsutinolide) >= 1.20% & Potassium Nitrate >= 2.0% (HPLC Thai Pharmacopoeia)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Potassium nitrate alters taste receptors to make tobacco smoke taste foul/metallic, while hirsutinolides partially block central a4b2 nAChR dopamine spikes. 2. Downregulates TNF-a/IL-8 for smoker's bronchitis. 3. Diuretic cotinine clearance.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN YA DOK KHAO SMOKING CESSATION TEA: 3 to 5 g dried shredded herb steeped in 200 mL boiling water for 10 min; drunk warm 3 to 4 times daily (after meals and whenever cravings arise) for 14 to 28 days. Febrifuge decoction: 15-30 g dried herb.
