    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Administer with adequate hydration during sickle cell vaso-occlusive crises. High clinical and hematological safety profile. Safe in lactation; moderate dosage during pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Sickle Cell Anemia (inhibition of deoxy-HbS polymerization and erythrocyte sickling deformation under hypoxia), malaria adjuvant therapy, spastic bronchial asthma, and bleeding wounds.

    Quality Markers

    Orientin (荭草苷) >= 0.80%, Vitexin (牡荆苷) >= 0.60%, Trematol & Proanthocyanidins >= 8.0% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Orientin and vitexin bind sickle hemoglobin (HbS), preventing sickling polymerization (>70% reversal). 2. Trematol and triterpenes downregulate hypothalamic PGE2 for fever. 3. Tannins stanch bleeding.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN MENARONG HEMATOLOGICAL DECOCTION: 20 to 30 g dried bark chips or leaves boiled with Hempedu Bumi and Pegaga in 600 mL water for 25 min; taken warm twice daily. Fresh leaf styptic poultice: 30-50 g pounded over bleeding cuts.
