    Haritaki / King of Medicines (He Zi / He Li Le / Manja Lawai). Held in the right hand of the Medicine Buddha. Sovereign of Tibetan Medicine & Emperor of Triphala: clears chronic lost voice, binds intractable watery diarrhea and rectal prolapse, restores longevity.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Paozhi Mandate: Deseed and use outer fruit flesh (He Zi Rou). CONTRAINDICATED in acute early-stage diarrhea before toxins evacuate. CONTRAINDICATED in exterior wind-cold cough with acute phlegm.

    Clinical Applications

    • Chronic laryngeal aphonia, hoarseness, and vocal fold mucosal fatigue, chronic refractory non-specific diarrhea, ulcerative colitis, rectal prolapse, and cellular longevity (telomerase protection).

    Quality Markers

    Chebulinic Acid (诃黎勒酸) >= 8.00%, Chebulagic Acid >= 6.00%, Gallic Acid >= 4.50% & Total Tannins >= 30.0% (HPLC ChP standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Chebulinic and chebulagic acids cross-link vocal fold mucosal proteins and enterocytes, halting fluid hypersecretion and Reinke's edema. 2. Upregulates cellular telomerase and glutathione. 3. Broad-spectrum antibacterial lysis.

    Preparation & Dosage

    CRITICAL PAOZHI MANDATE: RAW VS ROASTED (Wei He Zi): 1. RAW HE ZI (Sheng He Zi): 3 to 10 g for vocal hoarseness and sore throat. 2. ROASTED HE ZI (Wei He Zi, roasted with flour/bran): 5 to 10 g to bind chronic diarrhea and rectal prolapse. Triphala: 3-5 g.
