Traditional Edict
Clears lung heat, transforms thick sticky phlegm, opens hoarse throat, stops diarrhea, and neutralizes alcohol toxin. Triphala pillar for respiratory catarrh.
Cautions & Contraindications
- Do not swallow whole stony seed. Contraindicated in dry spasmodic cough without phlegm.
Clinical Applications
- Bronchial asthma with thick phlegm, chronic laryngitis, hyperuricemic gout (xanthine oxidase inhibition), non-alcoholic fatty liver, and hyperlipidemia.

Mechanism & Phytochemistry
1. Ellagic acid and gallic acid downregulate 5-LOX and leukotriene C4, relaxing bronchial smooth muscle and thinning thick mucus. 2. Bellericanin inhibits xanthine oxidase, lowering serum uric acid. 3. Downregulates hepatic lipogenesis.
Preparation & Dosage
De-seeded dried fruit pericarp decocted 15-20 minutes: 3-9 g daily. Swallowed as powder: 1.5-3 g.
