    Cautions & Contraindications

    Clinical Applications

    • Peripheral facial nerve paralysis (Bell's palsy), post-stroke flaccid motor hemiplegia, and severe gastralgia. Mandatory oil-fried paozhi; strictly micro-dosed.

    Quality Markers

    Strychnine (士的宁) >= 1.50%-3.00% (higher than Nux Vomica) & Brucine >= 1.00% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Strychnine acts as a potent competitive antagonist at inhibitory glycine receptors in spinal motor neurons, amplifying reflex excitability to fire paralyzed nerves. 2. Extreme toxicity causes fatal tetanic convulsions.

    Preparation & Dosage

    CRITICAL PAOZHI & MICRO-DOSING MANDATE: MUST BE DEEP-FRIED IN SESAME OIL AT 220C (You Zhi Lu Song Guo). Processed powder: 0.1 to 0.3 g daily (MAX SINGLE DOSE: 0.2 g; MAX DAILY DOSE: 0.3 g) under hospital supervision. RAW BEANS ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN.
