    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Spit out saliva during chew-stick use (avoid swallowing concentrated cardenolides). Do not ingest high-dose bark decoctions in cardiac glycoside therapy (Digoxin interaction).

    Clinical Applications

    • Chronic marginal gingivitis, periodontal pocket bleeding and dental calculus prophylaxis, lymphatic filariasis (macrofilaricidal destruction of Brugia malayi microfilariae), and infectious dysentery.

    Quality Markers

    Strebloside (强心苷 / Cardenolide) >= 0.50%, Mansonin & Condensed Tannins >= 8.0%-12.0% (HPLC Thai Pharmacopoeia)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Volatile terpenoids and strebloside inhibit glucosyltransferase in Streptococcus mutans, preventing plaque biofilm formation. 2. Bark tannins cross-link bleeding gingiva. 3. Filariasis lysis.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE ANCIENT KHOI CHEW-STICK PROTOCOL (Siamese Herbal Toothbrush): Take a 15 cm green pencil-sized Kesinai twig (*Kayu Gigi*); chew 1 cm of the tip until fibers fray into a soft brush; brush teeth for 3 min (spit saliva). Mouthwash: 15 g dried bark boiled in 300 mL water.
