    Traditional Edict

    Coffee Senna (Gelenggang Kecil / Wang Jiang Nan / Kopi Senna). Petiole with dark purple basal gland and sickle-curved pods. Roasted seeds brew into a rich caffeine-free coffee: subdues hypertensive dizziness, soothes chronic stomach pain, clears liver fire.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Ensure seeds are mature and thoroughly roasted for coffee use. High safety profile in human dietary roasted coffee. Contraindicated during pregnancy in high-dose laxative decoctions.

    Clinical Applications

    • Stage 1 essential hypertension with tension headaches and dizziness, functional dyspepsia with acid regurgitation, chronic superficial gastritis, and caffeine-free lifestyle beverage for cardiac patients.

    Quality Markers

    Emodin (大黄素) >= 0.60%-1.20%, Physcion >= 0.40% & Total Hydroxyanthraquinones >= 1.80% in roasted seeds (HPLC ChP standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Emodin and physcion stimulate endothelial eNOS and inhibit L-type calcium channels, reducing peripheral vascular resistance and blood pressure. 2. Tannins in roasted seeds buffer gastric acid. 3. Zero caffeine content.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN KOPI SENNA CAFFEINE-FREE LIVER-TONIC BREW: 50 g dry seeds roasted in dry skillet for 10 min until dark chocolate-brown and puffed (Chao Wang Jiang Nan); ground and brewed (10 g in 250 mL boiling water in French press) as morning coffee. Decoct: 6-12 g.
