    Candle Bush (Gelenggang / Daun Kurap / Chi Jia Jue Ming). Golden candle flower spikes and 4-winged black pods. Sovereign cure for fungal ringworm (Kurap) and white sweat spots (Panau): rubbing fresh crushed leaves over skin eradicates tinea in 5 days; purges bowels.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Limit internal laxative use to <=7 days (prevents anthraquinone habituation and melanosis coli). CONTRAINDICATED in active pregnancy for internal ingestion (external rubbing is 100% safe). CONTRAINDICATED in bowel obstruction.

    Clinical Applications

    • Fungal dermatomycoses (Tinea corporis, Tinea cruris, Tinea pedis / athlete's foot), pityriasis versicolor (Malassezia furfur / Panau), atopic eczema with secondary infection, and acute functional constipation.

    Quality Markers

    Chrysophanol (大黄酚) >= 0.50%-1.20%, Rhein >= 0.80%-1.50% & Sennosides A & B >= 1.50% (HPLC ChP/MHM standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Chrysophanol and rhein inhibit fungal 14a-demethylase and squalene epoxidase, depleting ergosterol and causing cell membrane lysis in Trichophyton and Microsporum (MIC < 25 ug/mL). 2. Sennosides stimulate colonic peristalsis.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN GELENGGANG FRESH TINEA RUB: 5 to 8 fresh leaves bruised with sea salt or calamansi lime juice rubbed firmly onto ringworm (Kurap) or sweat patches (Panau) for 3 min twice daily for 7 days. Laxative tea: 3-6 g dried leaves boiled in 300 mL water.
