    Rose Myrtle (Kemunting / Tao Jin Niang / Gang Ren). Urn-shaped purplish-black berries with 3-veined felty leaves. Sovereign Blood-Nourishing Confinement Fruit (Gangren Bu Xue Jiu): revitalizes postpartum blood, binds chronic dysentery, destroys MRSA superbugs.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Never consume large quantities of unripe green berries (concentrated tannins cause spastic constipation). Consume only fully soft dark-purple berries. High safety profile in postpartum convalescence.

    Clinical Applications

    • Iron-deficiency and post-hemorrhagic anemia, dysfunctional uterine bleeding (menorrhagia), chronic bacillary dysentery (Shigella), and Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) skin infections.

    Quality Markers

    Rhodomyrtone (桃金娘酮) >= 1.00%-2.50%, Proanthocyanidins >= 15.0% & Anthocyanins >= 500 mg/100g in fruit (HPLC/LC-MS)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Rhodomyrtone causes rapid membrane depolarization and lysis in MRSA and Gram-positive superbugs (MIC < 0.5 ug/mL). 2. Cyanidin-3-glucoside and organic iron stimulate bone marrow erythropoiesis. 3. Condensed tannins bind enterocytes.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN LINGNAN KEMUNTING BLOOD-NOURISHING TONIC WINE (Gang Ren Yang Xue Jiu): 250 g dried ripe berries macerated with Dang Gui, Goji, and rock sugar in 1.5 L rice wine for 40 days; 20-30 mL at bedtime. Root decoction for dysentery: 20-30 g. Fresh fruit: 50-100 g.
