    Traditional Edict

    Yellow Moonseed (Akar Ambin / Mi Hua Teng). Yellow bitter wood and climbing liana. Sovereign rainforest febrifuge: terminates resistant malarial swamp fevers, unblocks painful joint rheumatism, clears amoebic dysentery, and draws out snake venoms.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Intensely bitter taste (advise patients). High alkaloid potency (do not exceed 20 g daily). CONTRAINDICATED IN PREGNANCY (potent channel-moving dynamics). Caution in severe hypotension.

    Clinical Applications

    • Chloroquine-resistant malaria fevers (Plasmodium hemozoin biocrystallization inhibition), chronic rheumatoid arthritis, acute bacillary/amoebic dysentery, and post-traumatic contusion pain.

    Quality Markers

    Pycnamine, Isotetrandrine, Berbamine, Limacine & Total Bisbenzylisoquinolines >= 2.50% (HPLC MHM standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Isotetrandrine and pycnamine inhibit parasitic protein synthesis and hemozoin formation in Plasmodium falciparum. 2. Bisbenzylisoquinolines block L-type calcium channels and downregulate synovial NF-kB/TNF-a for joint pain. 3. Antipyretic action.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN AKAR AMBIN ANTIMALARIAL & FEBRIFUGE DECOCTION: 10 to 15 g dried sliced yellow wood chips or root boiled in 500 mL water for 25 min; taken warm twice daily during fevers. Joint arthralgia decoction: 10-15 g with Halia Bara.
