Traditional Edict

Pus Vanishes Upon Seeing It (Nong Jian Xiao). Natural biological scalpel. Clears toxic heat, draws out deep refractory pus from boils and carbuncles, resolves mastitis, unblocks strangury.

Cautions & Contraindications

When applying fresh mucilage poultice, ALWAYS leave a tiny opening at the apex of the boil for pus drainage. Contraindicated in cold diarrhea without heat-toxin.

Clinical Applications

Acute suppurative mastitis (Ru Yong), cutaneous furunculosis/carbuncles (spontaneous pus evacuation without scalpel), acute cystitis, and insect stings.

Mucilage Polysaccharides >= 5.00% & Quercetin-3-O-rutinoside (Chinese Pharmacopoeia)

Mechanism & Phytochemistry

1. Dense water-soluble arabinogalactan mucilage forms an osmotic hydrogel poultice, softening keratin and drawing out deep purulent cores. 2. Quercetin rutinoside disrupts cell walls of S. aureus (mastitis pathogen). 3. Diuretic urinary flushing.

Preparation & Dosage

THE SOVEREIGN PUS-DRAWING POULTICE (Ba Nong Gao / 拔脓膏): 30-50 g fresh herb pounded with 1 tsp brown sugar into thick mucilaginous paste, applied directly over boil (leave central opening for drainage). Decoct: 15-30 g.

Appended Prescriptions

1. The Sovereign Mastitis & Carbuncle Pus-Clearing Poultice with Taraxacum mongolicum (Pu Gong Ying) and Brown Sugar. 2. Nanyang Acute Cystitis Decoction with Plantago asiatica.
