    Traditional Edict

    Silver-Backed Polyalthia (Medang Hitam / Bai Bei An Luo). Dark aromatic bark with striking chalk-white leaf undersides. Orang Asli and Malay forest tonic: terminates intermittent malarial swamp fevers, dispels bone chills, soothes postpartum aches.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Aporphine-rich bark (adhere to recommended doses; do not exceed 30 g daily). CONTRAINDICATED in active pregnancy for large internal doses (mild uterine-toning dynamics). Safe in postpartum recovery.

    Clinical Applications

    • Chloroquine-resistant malarial fevers (schizonticidal action), chronic rheumatoid arthritis, postpartum maternal body chills and fatigue, and multi-drug resistant bacterial infections.

    Quality Markers

    Onychine (Azafluorenone) >= 0.50%, Liriodenine & Clerodane Diterpenoids >= 1.00% (HPLC MHM standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Onychine azafluorenone and aporphine alkaloids inhibit Plasmodium falciparum hemozoin biocrystallization, lysing intraerythrocytic parasites. 2. Clerodanes suppress synovial NF-kB and COX-2. 3. Transdermal warming vasodilation.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN MEDANG HITAM RAINFOREST ANTIMALARIAL & JOINT TONIC: 15 to 25 g dried sliced bark chips boiled in 500 mL water for 25 min; taken warm twice daily during fevers or joint pain. Postpartum restorative steam bath: 50 g bark in boiling water.
