    Pulasan (Shan Hong Mao Dan / Buah Pulasan). Thick dark-maroon rind with blunt stubby tubercles and sweet free-stone aril. Thick hull powerfully binds chronic refractory watery diarrhea and dysentery, inhibits a-glucosidase to lower blood sugar in diabetes.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Do not administer heavy astringent decoctions in early-stage acute dysentery with high fever before toxins drain. CONTRAINDICATED in spastic constipation with dry hard stools. High safety profile.

    Clinical Applications

    • Chronic inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis flares), acute secretory diarrhea (E. coli, Shigella dysentery), Type 2 Diabetes mellitus (potent a-glucosidase inhibition), and bleeding hemorrhoids.

    Quality Markers

    Geraniin (老鹳草素) >= 8.00%-12.00%, Corilagin & Proanthocyanidins >= 15.0% (HPLC MHM standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Geraniin and corilagin ellagitannins non-competitively inhibit intestinal brush border a-glucosidases (IC50=0.85 ug/mL), blunting glucose spikes. 2. Condensed tannins cross-link colonocyte proteins, arresting fluid secretion. 3. Capillary stabilization.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN PULASAN PERICARP ANTIDIARRHEAL DECOCTION: 15 to 30 g dried dark-maroon rinds boiled in 600 mL water for 25 min; taken in 2 divided doses daily for diarrhea. Glycemic moderation tea: 10 g with Misai Kucing. Fresh fruit: 5-10 fruits.
