    Traditional Edict

    Horse Mango (Bacang / Machang / Pakel). Pungent turpentine-scented rainforest mango. Fermented into Sambal Machang. Clears summer-heat, diffuses Lung-Qi to dissolve stubborn yellow phlegm, awakens Spleen, expels intestinal worms.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • CAUSTIC GETAH MACHANG LATEX WARNING: Raw fruit skin exudes anacardic sap that causes painful lip blisters (Bibir Melepuh). Always peel thickly under running water. Contraindicated in acute peptic ulcer perforation.

    Clinical Applications

    • Acute/chronic bronchitis with tenacious purulent sputum, functional dyspepsia with anorexia, intestinal ascariasis/pinworm expulsion, and cutaneous parasitic skin washes.

    Quality Markers

    Mangiferin >= 1.20%, a-Pinene & Total Monoterpenes >= 1.50% (GC-MS/HPLC MHM standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Volatile monoterpenes (a-pinene, b-phellandrene) stimulate bronchial submucosal secretions and ciliary transport, liquefying viscous phlegm. 2. Mangiferin suppresses mucosal myeloperoxidase (MPO). 3. Anacardic acid nematode cuticle lysis.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN NANYANG SAMBAL MACHANG: 150 g golden-yellow Bacang flesh pounded with red chilies, toasted belacan, and palm sugar. Bronchial expectorant decoction: 30 g fresh pulp simmered with Snow Pear and rock sugar for 20 min. Seed decoction: 10-15 g.
