    Traditional Edict

    Winged Laggera (Daun Sembung Sayap / Liu Leng Ju). 6-winged wavy green stems and pungent camphoraceous scent. Clears wind-heat, soothes throat, dissolves parotid swelling in mumps (Xiao Zhadan), and terminates bronchitis fevers.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Authenticate the 6 continuous wavy green wings running along the stem. Contraindicated in severe Spleen deficiency cold watery diarrhea without heat signs. Caution in pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Epidemic parotitis (mumps paramyxovirus suppression), acute viral influenza (H1N1/H3N2), suppurative tonsillitis, chronic bronchitis with yellow sputum, and rheumatoid joint pain.

    Quality Markers

    Pterodontic Acid >= 0.80%, Chrysosplenetin, Artemetin & Total Flavonoids >= 2.00% (Chinese Pharmacopoeia)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Chrysosplenetin and artemetin polymethoxyflavonoids selectively inhibit viral neuraminidase and RNA polymerase in mumps and influenza viruses. 2. Pterodontic acid downregulates MUC5AC mucin, thinning phlegm. 3. TRPM8 sensory analgesia.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN MUMPS & PHARYNGEAL SWELLING POULTICE: 30 g fresh leaves pounded with egg white and rice vinegar applied over mumps swellings for 2-4 hours. Whole herb decoction: 10-20 g daily. Pharyngeal tea: 10 g with honey.
