Traditional Edict
Javanese Ixora (Siantan Hutan). Spherical fiery orange-red flower bouquets. Clears Liver fire, calms blood pressure, activates blood to clear postpartum lochia, regulates menses, and halts internal/external bleeding.
Cautions & Contraindications
- Shade-dry flowers below 40C to preserve anthocyanins. Contraindicated during active pregnancy (blood-activating and emmenagogue dynamics) and in severe hypotension.
Clinical Applications
- Stage 1 essential hypertension (eNOS vasodilation), spasmodic dysmenorrhea, postpartum lochial retention, acute bacillary dysentery (Shigella), and bleeding hemorrhoids.

Mechanism & Phytochemistry
1. Cyanidin-3-rutinoside and rutin stimulate vascular eNOS phosphorylation, increasing nitric oxide bioavailability and lowering blood pressure. 2. Ursolic acid and lupeol modulate myometrial tone, relieving dysmenorrhea. 3. Astringent antidiarrheal tannins.
Preparation & Dosage
THE SOVEREIGN SIANTAN BLOOD-PRESSURE LOWERING TEA: 6-12 g dried red flowers steeped in boiling water for 10 min daily. Postpartum root decoction: 15-30 g daily for lochial retention. Topical wash: 30-50 g.
