Traditional Edict
Arrowleaf Homalomena (Keladi Kemoyang). Aromatic sagittate leaves and ginger-taro rhizomes. Heated in Malay Bertungku compress to expel pelvic cold, unblock wind-damp arthritis, warm stomach cramps, and firm postpartum womb.
Cautions & Contraindications
- Raw fresh sap contains mild calcium oxalate raphides (always heat or boil before internal or prolonged skin contact). Contraindicated in severe Yin deficiency with dry tongue. Caution in pregnancy.
Clinical Applications
- Postpartum uterine subinvolution and pelvic cold chills (Bentan), chronic degenerative lumbar/knee osteoarthritis, functional dyspeptic cold flatulence, and traumatic contusions.

Mechanism & Phytochemistry
1. Linalool and homalomenol sesquiterpenoids penetrate transdermally during heated compression, blocking voltage-gated calcium channels in smooth muscle to relieve cramps. 2. Non-competitively inhibits COX-2. 3. Promotes local microvascular hyperemic flushing.
Preparation & Dosage
THE SOVEREIGN MATERNAL HEATED BERTUNGKU COMPRESS: 50 g fresh sliced rhizomes heated with river stone in cloth wrap over abdomen for 30 min daily. Dried sliced rhizomes in decoction: 6-12 g daily. Medicated liniment with coconut oil.
