Traditional Edict
Clears toxic heat, dries dampness, astringes intestines to stop chronic dysentery, stops bleeding, and knits wounds. Queen of Tropical Fruits pericarp for colitis, ulcers, and acne.
Cautions & Contraindications
- High astringency; do not use in early infectious dysentery before toxins are cleared. Contraindicated in chronic spastic constipation.

- Chronic ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D), MRSA skin infections, cystic acne vulgaris (Cutibacterium acnes), and colon cancer adjuvant.

Mechanism & Phytochemistry
1. a-Mangostin directly inhibits COX-2 and 5-LOX selectively without suppressing COX-1, downregulating TNF-a, IL-1b, and IL-6. 2. Destroys bacterial cell membranes of MRSA and C. acnes (MIC 0.78-1.56 ug/mL). 3. Induces mitochondrial Caspase-3/9 apoptosis in colon cancer.
Preparation & Dosage
Dried sliced pericarps decocted 20 minutes: 6-15 g daily. Topical wash for weeping eczema and hemorrhoids: 20-30 g boiled in 1 L water. Standardized extract: 250-500 mg.
