Traditional Edict
Clears toxic heat, diffuses Lung to calm wheezing, terminates dysentery, elevates blood platelets, promotes lactation, stops itching. Celebrated as Asthma Weed and Tawa-tawa for Dengue.
Cautions & Contraindications
- Fresh milky latex is mildly irritant to eyes; wash hands after harvesting. Contraindicated in pregnancy (mild oxytocic uterine stimulation) and severe cold diarrhea.
Clinical Applications
- Bronchial asthma with bronchospasm, Dengue fever thrombocytopenia (platelet elevation), acute bacillary dysentery, postpartum hypogalactia, and cutaneous eczema.

Mechanism & Phytochemistry
1. Quercitrin and shikimic acid stimulate bone marrow megakaryocytopoiesis, accelerating thrombocyte recovery in viral Dengue. 2. Euphorbianin and afzelin relax histamine-contracted bronchial smooth muscle. 3. Triterpenes lyse Entamoeba histolytica and Shigella.
Preparation & Dosage
Whole dried herb in decoction: 10-20 g daily (up to 30-50 g in acute Dengue protocols). Fresh milky sap applied topically to warts and eczema. Standardized extract: 250-500 mg.
