    Traditional Edict

    Island Musk (Pokok Ru / Wu Zhi Wu Zhu Yu). Digitately 5-foliolate leaves releasing musky perfume. Warms channels, dispels wind-cold, moves Qi, stops stomach cold colic, and serves as royal postnatal confinement bath herb (Mandi Herba).

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Warm and intensely aromatic; avoid prolonged unmonitored use in severe Yin deficiency with dry red tongue. Caution during first trimester of pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Rheumatic joint stiffness, tension-type headaches, functional dyspeptic gas spasms, postpartum pelvic recovery, and antimicrobial topical washes.

    Quality Markers

    Hortiamine, Evodiamine/Rutaecarpine analogues >= 0.50% & b-Caryophyllene (HPLC/GC-MS MHM standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Hortiamine and quinolones desensitize sensory TRPV1 receptors on C-fibers, suppressing substance P and providing joint analgesia. 2. b-Caryophyllene blocks intestinal smooth muscle calcium influx, stopping colic. 3. Antiseptic membrane lysis.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN MATERNAL CONFINEMENT BATH (Mandi Herba Pokok Ru): 100-150 g fresh/dried leafy branchlets boiled in 10 L water for 20 min. Sliced branchlets in decoction: 6-12 g daily. Fresh poultice: 30-50 g.
