Traditional Edict
Elephant Apple (Chulta / Di Lun Tao). Massive globose green fruit wrapped in fleshy sour sepals. Clears stomach fire, engenders body fluids, lowers blood sugar in diabetes, astringes chronic diarrhea, and strengthens hair roots.
Cautions & Contraindications
- High dietary safety in traditional curry and beverage preparations. Contraindicated in spastic constipation and severe dry stools due to astringent tannins.

- Type 2 Diabetes mellitus (postprandial glucose spike reduction), peptic ulcer disease (gastric cytoprotection), irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D), aphthous stomatitis, and hair loss/dandruff.

1. Pectin polysaccharides and ellagic acid competitively inhibit intestinal a-glucosidase and a-amylase, blunting glycemic curves. 2. Mucilage and betulinic acid stimulate gastric PGE2 synthesis, protecting against ulcers. 3. Astringent antidiarrheal action.
Preparation & Dosage
THE SOVEREIGN ELEPHANT APPLE CULINARY DRINK (Jus Buah Simpoh): 50-100 g fresh fleshy fruit sepals sliced and simmered with water and a pinch of salt (cooling thirst-quenching drink). Dried fruit sepals/leaves in decoction: 15-30 g daily.
