Traditional Edict

Sacred Durva grass. Creeping rhizomes with white dog-tooth scales. Clears toxic heat, cools blood to stop bleeding, dissolves kidney stones (Ubat Batu Karang), unblocks strangury, and quenches diabetic thirst.

Cautions & Contraindications

Only harvest from clean, pesticide-free lawns (never use herbicide-treated grass). Contraindicated in acute complete obstructive urinary anuria requiring surgery.

Clinical Applications

Calcium oxalate nephrolithiasis/urolithiasis (inhibiting stone nucleation/aggregation), hematuria, menorrhagia, acute cystitis, epistaxis, and Type 2 Diabetes mellitus.

Tricin (麦黄酮) >= 0.10%, Cynodin, Ferulic Acid & b-Sitosterol-D-glucoside (HPLC MHM standard)

Mechanism & Phytochemistry

1. Tricin and polyphenols significantly inhibit calcium oxalate monohydrate (COM) crystal nucleation and aggregation in renal collecting ducts while elevating urinary citrate and GFR. 2. Cynodin promotes hemostasis. 3. Stimulates insulin.

Preparation & Dosage

Dried rhizomes/grass in decoction: 15-30 g daily (up to 60 g in acute urolithiasis). The Sovereign Durva Hemostatic Expressed Juice: 30-50 g fresh grass pounded with water, expressed: 20-30 mL with honey. Extract: 250-500 mg.
