    Traditional Edict

    Javanese Turmeric / Temu Lawak (Temu Lawak / Zhao Wa Jiang Huang / Raja Segala Jamu / Rhizoma Curcumae Xanthorrhizae). Colossal golden-orange rhizome with purple midrib leaves. Undisputed King of Southeast Asian Jamu: xanthorrhizol downregulates hepatic SREBP-1c to reverse fatty liver (NAFLD), doubles bile secretion (>200%), lowers transaminases.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • CONTRAINDICATED IN COMPLETE BILIARY TRACT OBSTRUCTION (potent choleretic surge). High clinical and hepatological safety profile. Safe in lactation; moderate culinary doses in pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease NAFLD/NASH and hyperlipidemia (SREBP-1c and FAS downregulation via Xanthorrhizol >= 1.50%), chronic hepatitis and elevated transaminases ALT/AST, cholelithiasis, and pediatric anorexia.

    Quality Markers

    Xanthorrhizol (爪哇姜黄烯酚) >= 1.50%-3.00% (signature marker), Total Curcuminoids >= 1.50%-2.50% & Essential Oil >= 5.00% v/w (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Xanthorrhizol downregulates SREBP-1c and Fatty Acid Synthase (IC50=2.4 uM), reversing hepatic steatosis by >50%. 2. Curcuminoids upregulate canalicular BSEP transporter, doubling bile flow rate.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE ROYAL TEMU LAWAK HEPATOPROTECTIVE & FATTY LIVER ELIXIR: Simmer 20 to 30 g fresh grated rhizomes with Tamarind pulp (Asam Jawa, 10 g) and palm sugar in 500 mL water for 20 min; drink warm daily before meals (reverses fatty liver in 30 days). Decoction: 6 to 15 g dried sliced rhizomes.
