    Purple Turmeric / Java Turmeric (Temu Tis / Zi Hong Jiang Huang / Zi Bao Jiang Huang). Purple-red floral bracts with aromatic golden-orange rhizome. Sovereign of Javanese Jamu: terminates acute postpartum shivering fevers (Demam Menggigil Nifas), accelerates uterine involution, dispels flatulent stomach colic.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Distinguished by showy purple-red floral bracts and golden-orange rhizome flesh. Highly revered during postpartum confinement and lactation. Moderate doses in pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Postpartum shivering pyrexia and puerperal cold fatigue (central thermoregulatory and antipyretic modulation via Purpurascenol >= 0.45%), delayed uterine involution and lochial retention, and flatulent dyspepsia.

    Quality Markers

    Purpurascenol (紫红姜黄醇) >= 0.45%, Alpha-Turmerone >= 0.60% & Curcuminoids >= 1.20% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Purpurascenol modulates hypothalamic prostaglandin E2 thermoregulatory centers, terminating chills and fevers. 2. Curcuminoids normalize myometrial smooth muscle tone, speeding postpartum recovery.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE TEMU TIS POSTPARTUM FEVER & CONFINEMENT TONIC (Jamu Temu Tis Nifas): 15 to 20 g dried sliced rhizomes boiled with Bentong ginger (10 g) and palm sugar in 500 mL water for 20 min; drink warm twice daily (clears shivering chills and cleanses lochia). Carminative tea: 10 g.
