Cautions & Contraindications
- High culinary and dietary safety. Use caution in patients with active gallstones or biliary obstruction due to choleretic bile stimulation.
Clinical Applications
- Breast carcinoma (MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 adenocarcinoma apoptosis induction), colorectal carcinoma (HCT-116), gastric ulceration, chronic gastritis, and hyperuricemia.

Mechanism & Phytochemistry
1. (E)-Labda-8(17),12-diene-15,16-dial exhibits selective cytotoxicity against breast cancer lines (IC50 2.3 ug/mL), upregulating Bax and cleaving PARP without harming healthy cells. 2. Stimulates gastric mucosal PGE2 synthesis. 3. Inhibits xanthine oxidase.
Preparation & Dosage
Fresh sliced rhizomes as digestive ulam or juice: 15-30 g daily. Sliced dried rhizomes in decoction: 6-15 g. Standardized Labdane extract: 250-500 mg twice daily.
