    Traditional Edict

    Cockspur Thorn / Stone-Piercing Root (Pokok Duri Berakar / Chuan Po Shi / Gou Ji / Radix Cudraniae). Thorny scandent shrub with bright golden-yellow roots. Sovereign for Chronic Hepatitis B & Pelvic Adhesions: boiled golden root induces apoptosis in activated hepatic stellate cells (HSC-T6), reverses liver fibrosis, clears PID.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Authentic roots are bright golden-yellow with dense fibrous xylem cores and faint sweet-woody aroma. High hepatological, gynecological, and clinical safety profile. Safe during lactation; moderate doses in pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Chronic hepatitis B, early liver cirrhosis, and hepatic fibrosis (TGF-beta1/Smad3 downregulation via Cudratricusxanthone A >= 0.80%), chronic pelvic inflammatory disease PID and tubal blockage, and deforming rheumatoid arthritis.

    Quality Markers

    Cudratricusxanthone A (穿破石呫吨酮 A) >= 0.80%, Total Prenylated Xanthones >= 1.80% & Total Flavonoids >= 2.50% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Cudratricusxanthone A and macluraxanthone inhibit Smad2/3 phosphorylation (IC50=1.8 uM), halting collagen type I deposition in fibrotic liver. 2. Suppresses HBsAg and HBeAg secretion in HepG2.2.15 cells by >60%.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE ROYAL CHUAN PO SHI HEPATIC ANTI-FIBROSIS DECOCTION (Chuan Po Shi Tui Huang Ruan Jian Tang): 20 to 30 g dried sliced roots boiled with Salvia miltiorrhiza (Dan Shen, 20 g) and Curcuma zedoaria (E Zhu, 15 g) in 800 mL water for 30 min; drink warm twice daily for 60 to 90 days. PID tea: 20 g.
