    Sacred Garlic Pear / Temple Plant (Pokok Tiga Helai / Yu Mu / Shu Tou Cai / Crataeva religiosa). Sacred temple tree with pickled bitter shoots (Shu Tou Cai) and spider blossoms. HISTORIC 700TH MONOGRAPH: boiled bark/leaf tea breaks urinary bladder stones, clears hepatic transaminases in hepatitis, and unblocks arthritic joints.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Fresh unfermented shoots contain pungent glucosinolates (always blanch or ferment before culinary ingestion). High nephrological and hepatological safety profile. Safe in lactation; moderate doses in pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Urinary bladder and ureteral lithiasis expulsion (calcium oxalate matrix dissolution via Lupeol >= 1.20%), acute and chronic hepatitis with elevated transaminases (ALT/AST), and rheumatoid arthritis.

    Quality Markers

    Lupeol (羽扇豆醇) >= 1.20%, Glucocapparin >= 0.80%, Betulinic Acid & Total Triterpenes >= 3.00% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Lupeol and triterpenes inhibit calcium oxalate crystallization and relax bladder detrusor tone. 2. Glucocapparin isothiocyanates downregulate hepatic NF-kB and lower serum transaminases.

    Preparation & Dosage

    TRADITIONAL LINGNAN SHU TOU CAI PICKLING PROTOCOL: Tender shoot flushes harvested in spring, blanched, and pickled in brine (famous Cantonese digestive vegetable). Lithotriptic bark decoction: 15 to 30 g dried sliced bark boiled in 600 mL water for 25 min; taken warm twice daily.
