    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Distinguish golden-orange rayed Cosmos sulphureus from pinkish-rayed edible salad Cosmos caudatus (Ulam Raja). High ocular, clinical, and dermatological safety profile. Safe in all ages.

    Clinical Applications

    • Liver fire conjunctival congestion, eye photophobia, and digital eye strain (retinal rhodopsin protection and aldose reductase inhibition via Butein >= 0.80% and Sulfuretin), acute hepatitis jaundice, and cutaneous wound healing.

    Quality Markers

    Butein (紫铆素) >= 0.80%, Sulfuretin (硫磺菊素) >= 0.60%, Coreopsin & Total Aurone Glycosides >= 2.50% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Butein and sulfuretin aurones inhibit lens aldose reductase (IC50=0.85 uM), preventing diabetic cataractogenesis. 2. Aurone glycosides scavenge reactive oxygen species in retinal pigment epithelium.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN YELLOW COSMOS EYE-BRIGHTENING TEA: 5 to 8 g dried golden-orange flower heads steeped in 300 mL boiling water with Chrysanthemum (5 g) and Goji berries (Gou Qi Zi, 6 g) for 10 min; sip warm daily (clears eye redness and strain). Wound poultice: fresh crushed flowers applied topically.
