Traditional Edict
Po Bu Zi / Sebastan Plum (Sekendai Hutan / Po Bu Zi / Shu Zi / Fructus Cordiae Dichotomae). Sticky golden-yellow gelatinous drupes. Sovereign for Neutralizing Seafood Toxins & Gastric Ulcers: fermented Po Bu Zi cakes steamed with fish chelate marine histamine toxins, while demulcent mucilage coats gastric ulcers and liquefies parched throat phlegm.
Cautions & Contraindications
- Fresh unfermented drupes have high astringent tannin content (always boil and pickle with salt/soy sauce before culinary use). Exceptional dietary, gastric, and pediatric safety profile.
Clinical Applications
- Seafood protein and histamine food allergy neutralization (mast cell degranulation inhibition via Taxifolin >= 0.40% and Polyphenols), chronic dry cough and bronchitis (mucociliary coating via Arabinogalactans >= 10.0%), and peptic ulcer disease.
Quality Markers
Mechanism & Phytochemistry
1. Taxifolin and rosmarinic acid stabilize mast cell membranes, inhibiting histamine and leukotriene C4 release. 2. Arabinogalactan mucilage coats gastric mucosa, neutralizing excess acid.
Preparation & Dosage
TRADITIONAL TAIWANESE PO BU ZI CAKE PROTOCOL: Boil green unripened drupes in salt water for 2h until sticky paste forms; mold into round cakes with ginger and soy sauce. Steam 20 to 30 g Po Bu Zi cake with fish or tofu (chelates toxins and aids digestion). Dry cough decoction: 15 g dried fruit boiled in water.
Appended Prescriptions
- 1. The Sovereign Seafood Toxin Neutralizing Steamed Fish Tonic (Po Bu Zi Zheng Yu) with ginger and soy. 2. Chronic Parched Cough & Phlegm Liquefying Tisane with Fritillaria (Bei Mu).
