    Indochinese Cordia / False Quassia (Sekendai / Jiao Zhi Po Bu Mu / Petekat). Forest tree with tomentose leaves and translucent yellow sticky drupes. Sovereign for Lost Voice & Jungle Fevers: boiled bitter bark clears malarial chills, lubricates strained vocal cords in laryngitis, maternal bath expels uterine wind.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Distinguish from glabrescent Cordia dichotoma by its velvety tomentose leaf undersides. High clinical, otolaryngological, and maternal safety profile. Safe in lactation; moderate doses in pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Acute and chronic pharyngitis, vocal cord strain, and aphonia (mucociliary coating and vocal fold NF-kB suppression via Rosmarinic Acid >= 0.80% and Mucilage), post-viral intermittent fevers (Demam Kura), and postpartum baths.

    Quality Markers

    Cordianol & Cordifolin (破布木酚) >= 0.50%, Rosmarinic Acid >= 0.80% & Water-Soluble Mucilage >= 6.0% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Rosmarinic acid downregulates pharyngeal COX-2 and IL-1b (IC50=2.4 uM), easing throat swelling. 2. Arabinogalactan mucilage coats vocal cords, restoring phonation.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SEKENDAI VOCAL CORD & PHARYNGITIS TISANE: 12 to 15 g dried sliced bark or leaves boiled with Platycodon (6 g) and Licorice root (4 g) in 500 mL water for 20 min; sip warm with honey throughout the day (restores lost voice in 24h). Postpartum bath: 50 g boiled in 5.0 L water.
