    Canadian Fleabane / Horseweed (Rumput Kuda / Xiao Peng Cao / Jia Na Da Peng / Herba Erigerontis). Tall plume-like leafy weed with white pappus. Sovereign for Bacillary Dysentery & Uterine Hemorrhage: boiled herb tea destroys enteric pathogens to halt bloody diarrhea, constricts bleeding vessels in Beng Lou.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Handling large volumes of flowering weed may cause mild contact dermatitis in sensitive individuals (wear gloves). High gastrointestinal and styptic safety profile. Safe in lactation; moderate doses in pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Acute bacillary dysentery and infectious enteritis (pathogen membrane disruption via Matricaria Ester >= 0.50%), functional uterine bleeding (Beng Lou) and menorrhagia (precapillary arteriolar vasoconstriction), and traumatic wound bleeding.

    Quality Markers

    Matricaria Ester (母菊酯) >= 0.50%, Luteolin-7-O-glucoside >= 0.80% & Essential Oil >= 0.30% v/w (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Matricaria ester disrupts microbial phospholipid bilayers in Shigella and Salmonella (MIC=6.25 ug/mL). 2. Luteolin glycosides stimulate localized platelet aggregation and precapillary vasoconstriction.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN ACUTE DYSENTERY DECOCTION: 20 to 30 g dried whole herb boiled with Ma Chi Xian (15 g) and ginger (10 g) in 600 mL water for 20 min; taken warm twice daily (halts diarrhea in 24-48h). Styptic poultice: 30 g fresh leaves pounded over bleeding cuts.
