    • BLACK BOX CO-INGESTION WARNING: NEVER DRINK HOT TEA CONCURRENTLY WITH SHI JUN ZI (tannins react with quisqualate to trigger intractable diaphragmatic spasms and violent hiccups). Overdose causes dizziness and vomiting.

    Clinical Applications

    • Pediatric ascariasis and enterobiasis (neuromuscular spastic worm paralysis via Potassium Quisqualate >= 0.50%), pediatric Gan malnutrition syndrome and abdominal distension (Fei Er Wan), and functional food stagnation.

    Quality Markers

    Potassium Quisqualate (使君子氨酸钾) >= 0.50%-1.00% (HPLC Chinese Pharmacopoeia standard) & Fatty Oil >= 25.0%

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Potassium quisqualate acts as an AMPA/kainate glutamate receptor agonist, causing neuromuscular excitation and spastic paralysis in Ascaris lumbricoides. 2. Fatty oils stimulate gentle peristalsis.

    Preparation & Dosage

    LIGHT-ROASTED CRACKED SEEDS PROTOCOL (Chao Shi Jun Zi): Lightly stir-fry 5-angled seeds until aromatic like roasted almonds. PEDIATRIC DOSAGE RULE: 1 kernel per year of age daily (e.g. 5 kernels for a 5-year-old child), chewed thoroughly on an empty stomach for 2 to 3 days (NEVER EXCEED 20 kernels daily).
