Sovereign for Intermittent Malarial Shivering & Bacillary Dysentery: boiled root/stem tea expels fevers, halts bloody diarrhea, cleanses lochia.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Follicle pod internal stinging hairs must be excluded during processing. Low toxicity. Contraindicated in acute spastic constipation. Safe during lactation; use moderate doses in early pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Acute and chronic bacillary dysentery (enterocyte tight junction sealing and anti-Shigella membrane lysis via Rapanone >= 0.60% and Condensed Tannins >= 10.0%), intermittent malarial fevers, and postpartum lochial stasis.

    Quality Markers

    Rapanone (拉帕醌) >= 0.60%, Palalosides A & B >= 0.50% & Condensed Tannins >= 10.0% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Rapanone disrupts cell membrane integrity in Shigella flexneri and Salmonella (MIC=3.12 ug/mL). 2. Tannins precipitate mucosal surface proteins, halting fluid hypersecretion.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN DYSENTERY & BLOODY DIARRHEA DRAUGHT: 10 to 20 g dried sliced stems/roots boiled with pomegranate rind (10 g) in 500 mL water for 20 min; taken warm twice daily (halts infectious diarrhea in 24h). Postpartum tea: 12 g boiled with turmeric.
