    Traditional Edict

    Pagoda Flower (Sepanggil). Massive scarlet-red pyramidal flower towers. Clears toxic heat, cools blood, halts epistaxis/hematuria/hemorrhoids, draws pus from suppurative mastitis (Ru Yong), and facilitates postpartum recovery.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Shade-dry flowers below 40C to preserve anthocyanins. Contraindicated in cold watery diarrhea without heat signs. Caution during pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Mucosal hemorrhage (epistaxis, hematuria, bleeding hemorrhoids), acute suppurative mastitis, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic furunculosis, and superficial wound healing.

    Quality Markers

    Cyanidin-3-glucoside >= 0.50%, Clerodol, Clerosterol & Verbascoside (HPLC MHM standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Cyanidin-3-glucoside anthocyanins reinforce vascular endothelial basement membranes, reducing capillary fragility and arresting bleeding. 2. Clerodol and phytosterols suppress PGE2 and TNF-a in inflamed breast and synovial tissue. 3. Wound granulation.

    Preparation & Dosage

    Dried flowers in decoction: 6-15 g daily. Dried roots in decoction: 15-30 g daily. The Sovereign Carbuncle & Mastitis Drawing Poultice: 30 g fresh leaves and red flowers pounded with salt over boils. Charred flower hemostatic powder: 3-5 g.

    Appended Prescriptions

    • 1. The Sovereign Mastitis-Clearing Floral Poultice with Taraxacum mongolicum (Pu Gong Ying). 2. Hemostatic Blood-Cooling Decoction with Sophora japonica (Huai Hua) and Biota orientalis.
