    Cautions & Contraindications

    • PREGNANCY CONTRAINDICATION: Uterotonic dynamics; ABSOLUTELY CONTRAINDICATED IN PREGNANCY. Safe and highly indicated during postpartum confinement and lactation.

    Clinical Applications

    • Postpartum lochial retention and subinvolution (myometrial alpha1-adrenergic contraction and clot expulsion via Clerodolone >= 0.50%), acute suppurative mastitis (Ru Yong), and traumatic contusions.

    Quality Markers

    Clerodolone (赪桐二萜醇) >= 0.50%, Hispidulin >= 0.40% & Total Flavonoids >= 2.20% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Clerodolone stimulates myometrial smooth muscle calcium influx, accelerating lochial evacuation. 2. Hispidulin downregulates mammary epithelial NF-kB and COX-2 (IC50=2.2 uM).

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN BUNGA PAGODA POSTPARTUM LOCHIAL TEA: 15 to 20 g dried flowers and sliced roots boiled with Yi Mu Cao (15 g) and Dang Gui (10 g) in 600 mL water for 20 min; taken warm twice daily during first 14 days postpartum (clears lochia). Acute mastitis poultice: 30 g fresh flowers pounded over breast.
