    Traditional Edict

    Creeping Treebine / White-Powder Vine (Pokok Asam Riang / Bai Fen Teng / Fen Teng). Cylindrical stems coated in glaucous chalky white powder with cordate leaves. Sovereign for Cervical Scrofula & Thyroid Nodules: boiled vine tea softens hardened phlegm nodules (Luo Li), heals bone fractures.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Fresh stems have mild calcium oxalate raphides (cook or steam before ingestion). High clinical, thyroid, and musculoskeletal safety profile. Safe during lactation; moderate doses in pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Cervical scrofulous lymphadenitis and thyroid nodules (macrophage apoptotic modulation and nodule softening via Resveratrol >= 0.50% and Pallidol), closed traumatic bone fractures and sprains, and rheumatic arthritis.

    Quality Markers

    Resveratrol (白藜芦醇) >= 0.50%, Pallidol, Ampelopsin & Total Stilbenes >= 2.00% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Resveratrol and ampelopsin downregulate NF-kB p65 and suppress lymphatic endothelial proliferation. 2. Stilbene dimers promote osteoblast differentiation in healing fractures.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN BAI FEN TENG SCROFULA & NODULE DECOCTION: 15 to 25 g dried vine slices boiled with Xia Ku Cao (15 g) and Xuan Shen (12 g) in 600 mL water for 25 min; taken warm twice daily (softens thyroid and lymph nodules). Closed fracture poultice: fresh stems pounded with rice wine.
