    Arrowhead Treebine / Halberd-Leaved Cissus (Akar Gasing Paya / Ji Ye Bai Fen Teng / Ji Zhua Teng). Halberd-shaped leaves with waxy white-powdered stems. Sovereign for Chronic Scrofula & Arthralgia: boiled vine tea unblocks stiff arthritic knees, fresh poultice dissipates swollen lymph glands (Luo Li).

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Fresh stems contain needle-like calcium oxalate raphides (cook or dry before ingestion to eliminate acridity). High clinical and joint safety profile. Safe during lactation; moderate doses in pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Chronic cervical scrofula and lymphadenitis (lymphatic endothelial decongestion and nodule softening via Hastatosides A & B >= 0.50%), chronic rheumatoid arthritis and sciatic neuralgia, and traumatic sprains.

    Quality Markers

    Hastatosides A & B >= 0.50%, Resveratrol >= 0.20% & Total Flavonoids >= 2.20% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Hastatoside resveratrol oligomers selectively inhibit synovial iNOS and PGE2 (IC50=2.8 uM). 2. Modulates lymphatic endothelial permeability, promoting scrofulous nodule resorption.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN AKAR GASING PAYA RHEUMATIC DECOCTION: 15 to 25 g dried stem slices boiled with Halia Bara (10 g) and Sang Ji Sheng (12 g) in 600 mL water for 20 min; taken warm twice daily after meals (dredges collaterals). Lymph node scrofula poultice: 30 g fresh stems pounded with coconut oil.
