    Cautions & Contraindications

    • High astringency; discontinue use once dysenteric diarrhea is controlled to avoid spastic constipation. Contraindicated in bowel obstruction. Safe during lactation; moderate doses in pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Acute bacillary dysentery, amoebic enteritis, and chronic diarrhea (enterocyte mucosal sealing and anti-Shigella action via Chukrasins A-E >= 0.80% and Condensed Tannins >= 12.0%), malarial intermittent fevers, and traumatic laceration hemostasis.

    Quality Markers

    Total Limonoids (as Chukrasin A) >= 0.80%, Condensed Tannins >= 12.0% & Total Flavonoids >= 2.50% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Phragmalin-type limonoids disrupt enteric bacterial cell wall transpeptidation (MIC=12.5 ug/mL). 2. Condensed tannins coat the colonic brush border, halting fluid hypersecretion.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN SURIAN BATU ANTI-DYSENTERIC DECOCTION: 10 to 15 g dried bark chips boiled with Guava leaves (10 g) in 500 mL water for 20 min; taken warm twice daily after meals (halts bloody dysentery). Traumatic bleeding powder: fine bark powder dusted onto wounds.
