    Wild Chrysanthemum / Bitter-Hearted Flower (Kekwa Liar / Ye Ju Hua / Ku Yi). Small golden flower heads with pungent medicinal scent. Supreme Monarch of Wuwei Xiaodu Yin for Deep Toxic Carbuncles: drains boiling furuncles (Ding Chuang), clears acute mastitis, lowers blood pressure.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Distinguished from sweet cultivated Ju Hua by smaller heads (1-1.5 cm) and intense bitterness. Use caution in Spleen deficiency cold with diarrhea. Safe in lactation; moderate doses in pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Suppurative cutaneous furuncles, carbuncles, and acute mastitis (sortase A and MRSA biofilm inhibition via Linarin >= 0.80% and 3,5-Dicaffeoylquinic acid), essential hypertension, and conjunctival redness.

    Quality Markers

    Linarin (蒙花苷 / 刺槐苷) >= 0.80% (HPLC Chinese Pharmacopoeia standard) & 3,5-Dicaffeoylquinic Acid >= 0.50%

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Linarin disrupts staphylococcal sortase A and bacterial biofilms (IC50=2.4 ug/mL). 2. 3,5-Dicaffeoylquinic acid downregulates macrophage NF-kB p65 and iNOS, resolving tissue necrosis.

    Preparation & Dosage

    CLASSICAL WUWEI XIAODU YIN (Master Surgical Formula): 15 g Ye Ju Hua with Jin Yin Hua (20 g), Pu Gong Ying (15 g), and Zi Hua Di Ding (15 g) decocted in 700 mL water. Hypertension tea: 10 g steeped with Cassia seed. Boil poultice: 30 g fresh flowers pounded with salt.
