    Cockscomb / Rooster's Comb (Balung Ayam / Ji Guan Hua / Flos Celosiae Cristatae). Velvety undulating crested crimson flower head. Sovereign for Uterine Flooding & Leukorrhea: Red Cockscomb cools blood to arrest uterine flooding (Beng Lou) & dysentery, White Cockscomb dries turbid white leukorrhea.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Red Cockscomb is specific for bleeding disorders (Beng Lou); White Cockscomb is specific for turbid white leukorrhea (Dai Xia). Exceptional clinical, gynecological, and maternal safety profile.

    Clinical Applications

    • Dysfunctional uterine bleeding and menorrhagia (stimulating platelet Factor XII and myometrial vasoconstriction via Amaranthin >= 0.60%), chronic vaginal leukorrhea and cervicitis (mucosal drying), and bacillary dysentery.

    Quality Markers

    Amaranthin (甜菜红苷) >= 0.60% in red flowers, Total Flavonoids >= 2.50% & Condensed Tannins >= 6.0% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Amaranthin and flavonols accelerate local platelet aggregation and coagulate torn capillaries. 2. Condensed tannins cross-link surface glycoproteins, halting vaginal leukorrhea.

    Preparation & Dosage

    RAW VS. CHARRED PAOZHI: Raw clears blood-heat and leukorrhea; Charred (Ji Guan Hua Tan) intensifies astringent hemostasis for acute uterine flooding (Beng Lou). Decoction: 6 to 15 g (up to 20 g in acute bleeding) with brown sugar or E Jiao. Charred powder: 3 to 6 g with rice water.
