    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Spiny trunk when young (wear gloves when harvesting bark). Exceptional clinical, maternal, pediatric, and dietary safety profile. Safe in pregnancy and lactation (galactagogue).

    Clinical Applications

    • Type 2 Diabetes mellitus (skeletal muscle GLUT4 glucose disposal and alpha-glucosidase inhibition via Vavain and Mangiferin), acute infectious bacillary dysentery, and postpartum hypogalactia.

    Quality Markers

    Vavain (哇法苷) >= 0.80%, Mangiferin >= 0.60% & Total Flavonoids >= 2.50% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Vavain isoflavone glucoside upregulates AMPK and stimulates GLUT4 glucose translocation in skeletal muscle. 2. Condensed tannins cross-link enterocyte glycoproteins to halt diarrhea.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN KEKABU ANTIDIABETIC BARK DECOCTION: 15 to 25 g dried bark chips boiled in 500 mL water for 20 min; taken warm twice daily after meals (lowers postprandial glucose). Acute dysentery: 20 to 30 g bark boiled with guava leaves. Ripe seed oil applied topically.
