    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Leaves have characteristic rough sandpaper texture from bristly hairs. Exceptional clinical, pediatric, maternal, and gastrointestinal safety profile. Approved by Philippine DOH (PITAHC). Safe in pregnancy and lactation.

    Clinical Applications

    • Spasmodic gastrointestinal colic and irritable bowel syndrome (M3 muscarinic receptor and L-type Ca2+ channel blockade via Ehretianone >= 0.50%), allergic rhinitis and spastic asthma (mast-cell stabilization), and dental caries prophylaxis.

    Quality Markers

    Ehretianone (厚壳树醌) >= 0.50%, Rosmarinic Acid >= 0.80% & Total Triterpenes >= 2.20% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Ehretianone blocks muscarinic M3 receptors and L-type calcium channels (IC50=3.6 uM), terminating gut spasms. 2. Microphyllone and rosmarinic acid stabilize mast-cell membranes, reducing histamine release by >70%.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE OFFICIAL CHAANG GUBAT SPASMOLYTIC TISANE: 15 to 20 g dried leaves boiled in 500 mL water for 15 min; taken warm immediately for acute intestinal colic or diarrhea (relieves pain in 15-20 min). Allergic rhinitis tea: 10 to 15 g with fresh mint. Mouthwash: 15 g boiled in water.
