    Freshwater Mangrove / Bamboo-Jointed Tree (Meransi / Zhu Jie Shu / Bakau Rabuk). Inland tree with swollen bamboo-like stem nodes and red berries. Sovereign for Malarial Chills & Dysentery: bark tea aborts cyclic malarial rigors, binds bleeding dysenteric stools, heals tonsillitis, firms loose teeth.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Discontinue use once diarrhea/dysentery is controlled to avoid rebound constipation from excessive tannins. Contraindicated in bowel obstruction. Safe during lactation; moderate doses in pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Multidrug-resistant malaria fevers (Plasmodium falciparum hemozoin blockade via Brachiatins >= 0.50%), acute infectious bacillary dysentery and hemorrhagic enteritis (Condensed Tannins >= 12.0%), and suppurative tonsillitis.

    Quality Markers

    Brachiatins / Carallidines >= 0.50%, Condensed Tannins >= 12.0% & Gallic Acid >= 0.80% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Brachiatins inhibit beta-hematin crystallization in plasmodial vacuoles, lysing parasites. 2. Condensed tannins cross-link enterocyte glycoproteins, blocking Shigella penetration.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN MERANSI ANTIMALARIAL & DYSENTERY DECOCTION: 15 to 25 g dried bark chips boiled with Hempedu Bumi (10 g) in 600 mL water for 25 min; taken warm twice daily after meals (halts dysentery and malarial rigors). Toothache/gum rinse: 15 g bark boiled in 300 mL water with salt.
