    Traditional Edict

    Coromandel Canthium / Wild Jessamine (Kadambam / Ci Gou Teng / Ci Mu). Thorny bush with paired supra-axillary spines and yellow berries. Sovereign for Intestinal Worms & Dysentery: bitter leaf/root tea paralyzes roundworms and pinworms within 24h, halts bloody diarrhea flux, clears strangury.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Wear protective gloves when handling spiny branches. Discontinue once diarrhea is controlled to avoid constipation. Safe during lactation; moderate internal doses during active pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Intestinal ascariasis, enterobiasis pinworms, and tapeworms (neuromuscular cuticular paralysis via Canthiumine), acute infectious bacillary dysentery, and painful urinary tract infection.

    Quality Markers

    Canthiumine (刺钩藤碱) >= 0.40%, Ursolic Acid >= 0.80% & Total Triterpenes >= 2.20% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Canthiumine alkaloid disrupts neurotransmission in nematode neuromuscular junctions, causing flaccid paralysis. 2. Condensed tannins cross-link enterocyte glycoproteins to halt diarrhea.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN KADAMBAM ANTHELMINTIC & DYSENTERY DECOCTION: 15 to 25 g dried leaves boiled in 500 mL water for 20 min; taken on an empty stomach at dawn (expels worms). Bacillary dysentery: 15 to 30 g dried root decocted in 600 mL water. Ripe berries eaten fresh.
