Sovereign for Acute Icteric Hepatitis & Uterine Flooding: fresh rhizome decoction clears yellow scleral jaundice in 7 days, lowers ALT/AST, stops bleeding.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Distinguish between ornamental cultivars and starchy edible Canna edulis (both have identical hepatoprotective pharmacology). Exceptional clinical, maternal, pediatric, and culinary safety profile.

    Clinical Applications

    • Acute icteric viral hepatitis and cholecystitis (bilirubin clearance and hepatocyte GSH-Px upregulation via Cyanidin-3-rutinoside and Rosmarinic acid), dysfunctional uterine bleeding (Beng Lou), and prebiotic gut stabilization.

    Quality Markers

    Cyanidin-3-O-rutinoside >= 0.80%, Rosmarinic Acid >= 0.50% & Inulin-Type Fructans >= 15.0% (HPLC/enzymatic standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Cyanidin-3-rutinoside downregulates hepatic NF-kB and accelerates biliary transport of conjugated bilirubin. 2. Inulin fructans stimulate colonic Bifidobacteria to produce SCFAs.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN GANYONG ACUTE HEPATITIS DECOCTION: 30 to 60 g fresh (or 20 to 30 g dried) rhizome slices boiled with Yin Chen (15 g) in 700 mL water for 25 min; taken warm twice daily for 7 to 14 days. Uterine hemostatic tea: 10 to 15 g dried scarlet flowers steeped with brown sugar.
