Sovereign for Rheumatic Joints & Anti-Retroviral Activity: source of Soulattrolide (HIV-1 reverse transcriptase inhibitor), bark tea relieves arthritis.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Distinguish from coastal Calophyllum inophyllum (soulattri has narrower oblong leaves and smaller subglobose fruits). Avoid internal medicinal megadoses in early pregnancy. Safe during lactation.

    Clinical Applications

    • Anti-retroviral research (HIV-1 non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibition via Soulattrolide), chronic rheumatoid arthritis and joint effusion, and traumatic laceration hemostasis.

    Quality Markers

    Soulattrolide (苏拉特内酯) >= 0.80%, Total Xanthones >= 2.50% & Condensed Tannins >= 8.0% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Soulattrolide binds the allosteric pocket of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (IC50=0.34 uM). 2. Caloxanthones inhibit 5-LOX and COX-2 (IC50=3.2 uM), protecting articular cartilage.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN BINTANGOR BUKIT ARTHRITIS DECOCTION: 15 to 25 g dried bark chips boiled with Patawali (15 g) and ginger in 600 mL water for 25 min; taken warm twice daily. Topical resin balsam: 10 g purified resin dissolved in 30 mL coconut oil applied over sprains.
