    White Cylindrical Mangrove (Bakau Putih / Burus / Yuan Zhu Hong Shu). Looping knee-roots with slender cylindrical green propagules. Master Coastal Astringent & Marine Catfish Antidote: warm bark/shoot poultice neutralizes venomous catfish (Ikan Sembilang) stings, stops bloody dysentery.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • MANDATORY FRESHWATER DESALINATION: Wash mangrove bark in fresh water before extraction. High astringent tannin content; CONTRAINDICATED in spastic constipation. Safe topically during pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Marine fish envenomation tissue necrosis and pain (venom Phospholipase A2 inhibition via Bruguierols A-C), chronic infectious bacillary dysentery, and bleeding peptic gastric ulcers.

    Quality Markers

    Bruguierols A-C >= 0.50%, Betulinic Acid >= 0.80% & Total Proanthocyanidins >= 10.0% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Bruguierols A-C competitively block venom PLA2 catalytic sites (IC50=4.2 uM), preventing tissue necrosis. 2. Condensed tannins cross-link enterocyte glycoproteins to halt diarrhea.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN MARINE CATFISH & STINGRAY POULTICE: 30 to 50 g fresh desalted inner bark pounded into a paste with sea salt; bound over puncture wounds (stops burning pain in 15 min). Gastric ulcer decoction: 10 to 15 g desalinated dried bark chips in 500 mL water.
